New for August 2020 - 10%+ flame figured wood included - same price

This listing is for one box full of authentic Hawaiian Koa natural edge, thin crafting boards. Also, known as Acacia Koa.

Koa is a rich dense exotic wood commonly used for inlays, veneers, musical instrument parts, furniture, cabinetry, gun grips, knife grips, ukulele parts, doll house parts, craft wood, and other high-end specialty millwork parts.

Unfortunately, due its high cost and scarcity, few woodworkers ever see much less use this treasured hardwood. Single boards can cost anywhere from $100-2000 pricing Koa out of many woodworkers' budgets.

Koa is expensive and rare because it is grown exclusively in Hawaii. Additionally, since it is a treasured resource inextricably linked to Hawaiian culture, legislation severely restricts its harvest. Generally speaking, the only Acacia Koa trees harvested are ones that have naturally fallen during storms.

We created this craft box for thin Koa boards to affordably bring a little bit of Hawaii to woodworkers everywhere.

Each USPS Medium Size flat rate box is filled with thin Koa wood micro-boards for use in a variety of craft applications. We fill it to the top...as much as we can fit until that box won't close!

Frequently Asked Questions:

What do the Koa micro-boards look like?

    Thickness:     .3125" sanded
Width:             2-8" ; 6.5" or better average width
    Length:           4-10"
    Edges:            natural / unmilled
    Grain:             50%+ Quartersawn, balance plain-sawn
Clarity:            90%+ clear, occasion intact fill-able character marks

How many Koa boards do I receive?

Because widths vary, the number of boards that fit into the box vary, as well. However, it's usually between 8-10 micro-boards.

Are they figured?

Approximately 10% of each box contains a medium/high level of flame, crotch or curl figure.

What if I need certain koa sizes for my project?

Message us after placing your order and we'll see what we can do. Just remember that the maximum size we can fit in this box is 8" x 10".

Where is this Koa craft wood milled?

It is all made in the USA! The Koa was grown in Hawaii. The wood is milled at our shop in Southern California.

Can these Koa microboards be matched for grain and/or color?

Most of the microboards in each box are cut from the same Koa log. Thus, matching color and grain should be relatively easy. You won't get 10 microboards with 10 different grain patterns, we promise!

###

The International Union for the Conservation of Nature (IUCN) lists Koa as a specie of "Least Concern."  This means Koa is not threatened, near threatened or conservation dependent.  There's just not a lot of it around!

The Koa pictures in this listing are from an actual Koa wood craft box. It is an accurate representation of the microboard mix you will receive but it is not the actual box you will receive.

Your authentic Hawaiian Koa wood arrives packaged nicely in a USPS flat-rate medium box. Shipping is free.

Returns accepted within 30 days, buyer pays return shipping.
