dollar weakens before knowing the outcome of the Fed meeting

Dollar weakens against major currencies While investors are keeping an eye on the outcome of the Federal Reserve's (Fed) monetary policy meeting today.

The dollar index, which measures the dollar's movements against six major currencies in a basket of currencies, was down 0.48% to 98.62, while the euro rose 0.63% to 130.34 yen and rebounded 0.45% to $1.10. The dollar rose 0.19% to 118.50 yen.

Investors are keeping an eye on the outcome of today's Fed meeting. This is the second meeting this year.

Fed Chairman Jerome Powell has signaled that the Fed will raise interest rates by 0.25% this month, not as intense as some analysts had expected a 0.50% increase.

If the Fed raises interest rates this week as expected. It will be the Fed's first rate hike since 2018.

On the other hand, the euro strengthened against the dollar and the yen. He responded to hopes that Russia and Ukraine were close to reaching an agreement on the peace talks.

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Russia and Ukraine are now close to reaching a partial agreement on peace talks. After Ukraine agreed to discuss neutral status.

Mr Lavrov's remarks raised hopes that Russia would end the war in Ukraine. This was Europe's biggest war since World War II.

“We are seriously discussing the state of neutrality. Along with the stability guarantee for Ukraine Both sides are nearing an agreement on some formulas. I see hope that Russia and Ukraine can compromise in peace talks,” he said.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has made it clear that Ukraine will not join the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO).

“Ukraine is not a NATO member. we understand this We've heard for years that the door has been open. But we also heard that we will not be able to attend. It's a fact that we have to accept," Zelensky said.

In addition, President Zelensky said that "An agreement with Russia to end the war in Ukraine is getting closer to reality," Zelensky said.

“We all want peace. And yet efforts were needed to end the war. Our negotiating representative requires patience and hard work.”

“This is difficult. but important because of any war It must end with making an agreement. The meeting will continue. And I've heard that the negotiating stance is getting closer to the truth. But we still need time to make decisions in the interests of Ukraine,” Zelensky said.
